Healthy Vegan Snacks
Being a vegan can present many challenges around the holidays. Studies have shown that people gain an average of seven to ten pounds from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day. Unfortunately
for vegans, they cannot binge on the same tortilla chips everyone else can.
Luckily for all vegans out there, Pampered Teacher has found the solution! Beanfields is a family owned tortilla company that is 100% Vegan and all natural. Beanfields was started in California in an attempt to eliminate all the genetically modified organisms that people
For those of you that are unfamiliar, genetically modified organism are living organism whose genetic
DNA has been manipulated through genetic engineering. Since GMOs are a relatively new science,
it is unsure what affect it can have on the body.
Beanfields created bean and rice tortilla chips that contain no products that have been
manipulated through genetic engineering. The bean and rice chips come in seven different
flavors: sea salt; nacho; pico de gallo; barbecue; unsalted; ranch and salt n’ pepper. The wide
variety of flavor options are sure to please anyone’s pallet. Not only do the bean and rice tortilla
chips have a delicious award winning taste are vegan and free of GMOs, they also have a lot of
nutritional value. The chips have 4g of fiber, 4g of protein, 0g of trans fat and 0g of sugar. These
chips have twice the protein and 37% less fat than the leading tortilla chip. All the ingredients
that are used in the bean and rice tortilla are from farms all located in the United States. The
Beanfields tortilla chips are perfect for the classroom because they all contain no nuts or seeds.
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice (you can use fresh lemons if you desire)
1 pinch or red pepper flakes (to your desire) (optional)
Set the food processor on a low setting. Slowly add in the harder ingredients. First add in the
clementine then the chopped green pepper and finally the onion. Wait until the ingredients are
finely chopped. When all the ingredients are finely chopped add the remaining ingredients. Add
in the avocado, lemon juice, honey and salt. Continue to blend until all of the ingredients are
smooth and evenly distributed. If you are not afraid of a little kick, feel free to add a pinch of
red pepper flakes to your desire. Remember this ingredient is completely optional, but in my
opinion it complements the sweetness of the clementine. If you love the sweet and spicy
combination feel free to add the red pepper flakes for a little heat. Once all the ingredients are
blended into a smooth consistency, transfer the salsa to a decorative bowl and garnish.
The clementine avocado salsa listed above is the perfect appetizer for the holidays and the
perfect compliment to Beanfields' nacho flavored tortilla chips. When scooping the salsa with
the chip you will find that no chip is left behind. Unlike most leading tortilla chips, these chips
are sturdy and do not crack under the weight of a hearty salsa. For those of you who opted to
add the red pepper flakes to the salsa, you will find that the red pepper flakes pair well with the
nacho flavor of the chips. The clementine avocado salsa enhances the flavor of the bean and
rice chip without taking away from the natural flavor of the chip. When you pair two all natural
products together great things happen. Although this is a healthy appetizer, no one will know
because it tastes too good to be healthy!
