Small Business Partners - Think Big, Shop Small

Some people argue that America is the land of the mega-corporation. I mean, you can’t drive very far anywhere in the US without passing a McDonalds or a Starbucks or a Walmart, right? But when you dig deeper into America’s economy, the truth is that small businesses actually make a big impact. As of 2012, Entrepreneur Magazine estimated that there were between 25 – 27 million small businesses in the US, and these businesses created 60-80% of all US jobs!

Yet even though small businesses support America’s economy in a huge way, it isn’t easy for them to survive and thrive. There is the constant pressure to lower costs while keeping wages competitive, and let’s not even talk about the cost of providing health insurance. It’s no wonder the Small Business Administration states that only about half of all small businesses are still open after 5 years.

So what is our solution for keeping small businesses thriving? We believe small businesses should band together and support one another whenever possible, and this is why we include at least one item from a small business in every box we sell. We are so excited to introduce you to three of the small businesses we have partnered with to bring awesome, one-of-a-kind products to teachers.

First up is Jennifer Cater, owner and creator of TheJCaterShop. She makes amazing earrings, necklaces and push pins made from upcycled pieces of fabric. We think her push pins would make a fun addition to any bulletin board and are so excited to share her whimsical, holiday-themed pins in our winter box!

Next, Amanda Merry is owner of Inner Sun Soap. She hand makes soaps, bath bombs and lip balms from sustainable and organic ingredients. Her products are simple and nourishing to the skin with no chemicals, dyes, preservatives or drying agents. We know teachers will love the lip balm we include in their boxes!

Last, but certainly not least, is Bonnie Hybner, independent wellness consultant for doTerra. She is an expert in using pure essential oils to help enhance health and wellness. Teachers will be receiving a sample of lavender oil to promote calm and relaxation (something every teacher could use).

Saturday, November 25th is Small Business Saturday. We are a small business who support other small businesses. We hope that you will choose to support us!

Also, if you own or know of a small business that could benefit teachers, we’d love to hear from you. Thank you so much for supporting our small business and others across the country!
